Helidon freestone on black granite base
45cm (H) x 55cm (W) x 30cm (D) (includes base)
After carving a massive red granite arctic boulder into a rose in Germany in September, I felt I needed to come back to earth and carve a flower bud from a much smaller stone. For me it holds promise of many “blossoms” to come. It is a very fine-grained and hard stone and I love the subtle pink colours in this gorgeous piece and the slight “imperfections” in the colours and small fault lines. It reminds me that despite our human fallibility and the importance of acceptance we have a deep-seated sense of endurance and capability to grow and blossom.
